2025 HOPE ENCOUNTER RECAP
FIRGROVE ELEMENTARY IN South Hill

At Newhope, we love our communities and want to be a blessing to the people who call them home. That's why we're excited to host our third annual Hope Encounter this August at three different locations. Each Hope Encounter event is completely free and will include:

A free lunch for the whole family
A fun Kids Zone with inflatables and games
Free shoes and socks

In addition, each location may offer other giveaways and resources, including backpacks, school supplies, snacks, beverages, and more, thanks to the generosity of our community sponsors and donors.

FAQ

Does any part of this event cost money?
No. Everything is free.
Who is putting on this event?
Newhope Church is the primary organizer of this event. Depending on the community there may be other organizations helping or sponsoring the event. In South Hill Newhope has partnered with other churches as well for 2026.
When can we show up for the event?
Posted start times are the official start time of the event. If we are able to "open the gates" early we often will. Depending on the location we often have people lining up as early as an hour before the event starts to ensure that they get a particular giveway but this is not required.
Will there be enough shoes or school supplies for everyone?
Supplies are given out on a first come first serve basis. We do our best to work with our partners to get enough supplies. We often run out of particular sizes of shoes before the event is over. Some great news is that we have been able to purchase about twice as many shoes this year for each location as we have had in the past two years. In locations where school supplies or backpacks are given out we do not traditionally run out but when that does occur Communities in Schools is great about connecting with the families to ensure they still receive supplies.
Does my child have to be in attendance to get shoes?
Unfortunately yes. Due to the high demand of shoes we are only able to give out one pair of shoes per child in attendance, until supplies last. We are not able to send shoes home with parents of kids who are not on site during the event. We will have kids try on shoes to ensure they are getting the proper sized shoe.
How do I volunteer for this event?
Select the community location above and it will take you to the event page where there will be a link to volunteer.
Where do I park?
This is location specific. There will be signs and people directing you at each location.
